The Beauty of Hanafuda Cards

Hanafuda are a set of 48 Japanese playing cards, 4 cards for each month.

Hanafuda are often referred to as 'Flower cards', because each four-card suit is depicted by a different flower. Each flower represents a calendar month about the time it blooms. The cards depict the yearly cycle using Japanese imagery. In addition to flowers, the cards depict animals, birds, insects, a person and objects like prayer banners and a sake cup.

The cards are very colorful and can be interpreted in many different ways which adds to their magic and mystique.

We offer three sizes of Hanafuda: Mini, Small, and Large. The mini size (.5" x .75") fits on mini dominos, mah jong tiles, and ATC's. The small images (1" x 1.5") fit just right on dominos. The large hanafuda measure 1.5" x 2.25", and one set fits just right on an A2 card. They can be ordered either by month, or by set/sheet (click here to jump to the set prices).
